Message from the Principal
I am delighted to represent this outstanding Jesuit high school, a school steeped in a rich tradition, since 1818, of academic excellence, civic leadership, service and lasting brotherhood—all for the greater glory of God.
It is a privilege to be at this school, where national merit scholars and advanced placement achievers emerge, where champion athletes compete, and where young men witness daily to the presence of God in their lives. At SLUH excellence abounds in the arts, the sciences, in literature and writing, in the mastery of six languages, and in the hearts of these young men who learn to be "Men for Others."
Daily I see young men test themselves and grow, not only in class, but in the 34 clubs and organizations, from Robotics to the Circus Club, to the weekly student-produced Prep News. And when the school day ends, I watch clusters of young men set out to serve the St. Louis area in over 100 community service sites.
SLUH values its presence in the city of St. Louis, partnering proudly with the Science Center, the Art Museum, and The Barnes Hospital complex, and providing myriad opportunities and educational resources to our students. I love seeing the Arch each day as I drive to work, and I enjoy the proximity to beautiful Forest Park.
Long a leader in the area of technology, SLUH continues to thoughtfully integrate the latest appropriate technologies into our classrooms and labs. All faculty have laptops; wireless classrooms are equipped with projector systems, multimedia boards, and monitors; and classroom sets of laptops are available to teachers of all departments. At SLUH we seek to balance the infusion of new information technologies with the gifts and talents of our outstanding faculty, and with SLUH’s historically excellent classical Jesuit education.
Thank you for your interest in St. Louis University High School. It is indeed a remarkable place. I continue to be proud of the consistently high level of teaching excellence; the economic and geographic diversity of our student body; the young men themselves, who are gentlemen and scholars; and the inspiration, spirituality and care of the Jesuits at SLUH and across the country. Please visit our campus at Open House, or join us for one of our many plays, athletic events, or music concerts. And please feel free to e-mail me at schenkenberg@sluh.org or call me at (314) 531-0330 ext. 125.
Blessings,
Mary Schenkenberg, Ph.D.
