Campaign: Vision 2000
In 1997, leaders at St. Louis University High School began a process of identifying the school's needs for the early 21st century. As a result, they developed a plan known as VISION 2000...a vision of what the school needed to be...then, today, and in the future.
Through VISION 2000, SLUH continues to secure its future by maintaining affordability, enhancing academics and technology, and developing its community and campus.
In addition to augmenting the school's endowment primarily for scholarship and financial aid purposes, VISION 2000 has allowed for essential academic and technological enhancements. SLUH has added 26 new teachers, decreased average class size from 30 to 21, and augmented its core curriculum so that students may now choose from more than 85 elective courses.
VISION 2000 has featured a variety of physical enhancements to the school's convenient location in the City of St. Louis. Some of these include: a joint entry with the Saint Louis Science Center; installation of artificial turf in the football stadium; a new on-campus baseball stadium; a new regulation track that incorporates a soccer field; a new student parking area; recreational green space; and a new fieldhouse (currently under construction) that will provide gymnasium space for recreational and competitive use.
SLUH has also shared resources and built relationships with notable institutions in the area as part of VISION 2000. The school has collaborated with and made significant investments in Forest Park Forever, the St. Louis Science Center and Compton Drew Middle School. In addition, SLUH has expanded its community service program, thus benefiting such organizations as Head Start, Loyola Academy, Big Brothers Big Sisters, St. Patrick’s Center and Boys Hope Girls Hope.
This significant initiative continues to foster SLUH's tradition of excellence for the next generation and beyond.
