SLUH Dedicates Danis Field House
St. Louis University High formally dedicated the Danis Field House, a new 45,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility featuring multiple gymnasium spaces, on September 25th. The Danis Field House is a keystone to the largest campaign project in the school’s history, known as VISION 2000.
“The Danis Field House is a significant investment for our students that punctuates our commitment to the City of St. Louis,” says David J. Laughlin, SLUH President.
Construction of the Danis Field House has created a competition gymnasium, additional court space for practice and recreation, a dedicated wrestling area and athletic offices. The three-level complex, which was completed this summer after 15 months of construction, features several energy-efficient functions. It is a top-loading facility that was built with the natural gradient, saving on costs and allowing the exits to be on grade level. Seating capacity for the main gymnasium is about 1,300 – not including the upper concourse area.
BSI Constructors Inc. was the contractor, and Hastings Chivetta was the architect for the approximately $10-million project. The field house is named in recognition of the Danis Family. Mr. and Mrs. Tim Danis '65, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Danis '65, and Mr. and Mrs. David Danis '61 have generously supported VISION 2000.
