DESMET
SLUH wrapped up their home schedule against cross-town rivals DeSmet, in a match-up of two teams that will see each other a lot over the next couple weeks: first at the DeSmet Jamboree, then at the Suburban Central Conference tournament.
Using a split-squad that had all sophomores and a few freshman, the Junior Bills played their strongest game of the season -- by far! Using only their half-court offense (as instructed by their coach), the team buried 15 goals using a nice mixture of 2M and driver goals. Steve Sigman led all scorers with 4 goals, followed closely by John "Scoring Machine" Savio's 3, who recovered his scoring touch after a couple difficult games. Additionally, long-injured-but-now-healthy freshman Ben Castro scored his first 2 goals of the season.
Defensively, Matt Hohenberger was his usual brick-wall-like self, allowing only 1 goal (that came on a 5-on-6) on 9 shots. Hohenberger has now given up only 6 goals in his last 10 quarters of play - a ridiculous 2.40 goals against average. Over that same time period, he has made 19 saves.
