2008 JV Water Polo
Parkway West
The Jr. Bills survived their first overtime game in at least 2 years by holding off the upstart Longhorns from Parkway West, earning a 10-8 victory.
SLUH started slowly but managed a 5-4 halftime lead on offensive strength from their defensive stoppers: Dan Goeddel (4G) and Rob Golterman (G). The second half saw a strong defensive effort but also a dip in offensive production.
With 90 seconds remaining, Rob Golterman seemingly put the game away with a goal setup by Ben Castro. Furthermore, the Jr. Bills had the ball with 38 seconds left and were able to dump the ball with 0 on the shot clock, putting 3 seconds on the clock. Due to a clock error, though, West had one last chance and they capitalized with a goal coming with 1 second on the clock.
In overtime, the Jr. Bills finally played up to their potential, dominating play with several scoring chances in the first OT period. Unable to strike gold, SLUH entered the final period of OT tied 8-8. Finally, with 1:25 remaining, Dan Goeddel scored his 5th goal of the game which proved to be the game-winning-goal. The defense did not allow another goal and Misha Digman's lone goal of the game cemented the Jr. Billikens as the victors.
