Jr. Bill Offense Slumps Again, Falls Hard Against CBC

A recurring problem for the Jr. Bills this season, weak hitting, once again found its place in SLUH's 9-0 loss against MCC rival CBC. With only 2 hits, the Jr. Bills could not muster any runs on the day. However, CBC was able to take advantage of walks and errors over the span of the game, scoring a total of 9 runs in the process. SLUH hopes to regain their hitting in another MCC battle against Vianney on Thursday, 5/8, at Vianney High School.

Pitching Shines in Win Over Chaminade

Starting at pitcher for the first time this season, Joe Luckey pitched a 1-hit shutout against the Chaminade Red Devils, winning the game 7-0. Luckey shut down the Chaminade offense, working efficiently while also baffling Chaminade hitters with 5 strikeouts. On offense, the Jr. Bills got a few big hits to help jumpstart their offense. Up 3-0 in the 4th, triples by John Helling and Alex Goedeker and a double by Joe Blume fueled the 4 run inning. SLUH faces off next in a doubleheader against Granite City at SLUH on Friday, 5/2.

DeSmet Pitching Stymies Jr. Bills

After their match against DeSmet was canceled on Monday 4/28, the Jr. Bills drove out to DeSmet to play their MCC rivals for the first time this season. However, when the first five SLUH batters struck out to begin the game, the Jr. Bills knew that they might have a tough day ahead. SLUH recorded only 4 hits and 2 runs on the day, while striking out 11 times. At pitcher, Dane Stole began the game with a shaky first inning, walking a total of 4 batters, but minimized the damage to only 2 runs. After the rough beginning, Stole settled down for the next three innings before DeSmet tagged the Jr. Bill pitcher for 4 runs. SLUH tried to rally in the top of the 7th, loading the bases, before a groundout to third ended the game. DeSmet won the game 6-2, dropping SLUH's conference play record to 1-3. The Jr. Bills look to shake off the loss in their next matchup against Chaminade at SLUH on Thursday, 5/1.

SLUH Puts Forth Strong Effort in Win Over MICDS

Playing one of their most solid games all season, the Jr. Bills defeated MICDS 7-2. SLUH put together a complete performance, starting with superb starting pitching by Alex Goedeker. Goedeker pitched a complete game, letting up only 2 runs while striking out 8 batters. Offensively, SLUH started off slow, unable to get on the board until scoring 2 runs in 4th inning before breaking out in the 5th inning with 4 runs. MICDS got its only 2 runs in the 6th inning, but never made a serious comeback threat. SLUH faces off against MCC and Jesuit Rival DeSmet for the first time on Monday 4/28 at SLUH.

Jr. Bills Dismantle Cavaliers

Due to rain, the Jr. Bills faced off against Bishop Dubourg in Forest Park, rather than at Dubourg. However, no change in location could have stopped the Jr. Bills, who mercy-ruled the Dubourg Cavaliers 12-0 in 5 innings. Elliot Fish pitched 4 solid innings, giving up only 1 hit. The Jr. Bills offense also had a big day racking up 16 hits. Chad Carson led the offense with 3 hits and 3 RBI's on the day. Hopefully the Jr. Bills will continue their hitting frenzy into their next game at MICDS on Saturday 4/26.

Cadets March to Victory, SLUH Drops to 1-2 in Conference Play

The Jr. Bills and Cadets squared off at Cadet Park on Tuesday afternoon with SLUH hoping to notch their second conference win of the season. SLUH took the early lead in the first with hits by Alex Goedeker and Michael Gaines. But CBC battled back and would eventually take a commanding lead in the innings to come. The Cadets capitalized on a series of errors and mental lapses as the Jr. Bills were never able to recover at the plate or the mound leading to a 13-3 defeat in 5 innings. SLUH will travel to Afton Athletic Complex on Wednesday to battle the Cavaliers of DuBourg at 4:15pm.

SLUH's Bats Come Alive

The Jr. Bills came out swinging hot bats against the Rockwood Summit Falcons, recording 9 hits and winning the game 9-7. Alex Goedeker started at pitcher, letting up 5 runs, 3 earned, on a combination of 4 hits and 4 walks. The SLUH offense kept the team in the game however, with an outstanding performance by leftfielder Espen Conley, who drove in 4 runs on a double and triple. The Summit Falcons threatened in the last inning, scoring 2 runs and putting the tying runs on base, but a ground ball to shortstop Austin Brauer set up the force at 2nd and thus propeling SLUH to its third victory of the season. The Jr. Bills head to CBC for their next game on Tuesday, 4/22.

No Flare, No Spark against MCC Rival

The Jr. Bills geared up on Tuesday to face MCC rival, the Vianney Griffins. Elliot Fish turned in a solid performance pitching 5 1/3 innings, but timely hitting and solid defense helped the Griffins prevail in this MCC showdown. Midway through, SLUH battled back, but errors and limited hitting prevented SLUH from a comeback victory. Coach Gilbert commented "we're not driving the ball at the plate. We need to focus on working the count and having good at bats". SLUH hits the road on Thursday, going to battle with a tough Rockwood Summit team at 4:15pm.

Errors and Quiet Bats Lead to Rout of Jr. Bills

Looking for their third win in a row, the Jr. Bills headed to Mehlville where they were rattled with a 10-0 loss. Starting pitching by Dane Stole was good, however 7 errors cancelled out his effort and accounted for most of the 10 runs. SLUH also struggled at the plate, recording only 1 hit along with a handful of walks. The Jr. Bills were never able to get anything going, and the Mehlville Panthers mercy-ruled the Jr. Bills after 5 innings. SLUH hopes to recover in their next game against MCC rival Vianney on Tuesday, 4/15, at SLUH's Sheridan Stadium.
