SLUH Prevails In Thrilling Comback Victory Over Parkway West

The Jr. Bills continued their success as they beat Parkway West 8-7. Keeping the bats alive, the Bills scored runs in the first three innings, highlighted by Dan Marklin’s two run double in the third, which made the score 4-2. Plagued by an injury to shortstop Christian Stark, sophomore Pat Roy moved from centerfield to replace him. In the fourth inning, pitcher Jeff Brand ran into trouble, in which Parkway West’s bats came alive and scored five runs. The Jr. Bills were unable to find an answer until the top of the 7th. Freshman Griffin Lowry got the rally started with a lead-off triple. After three consecutive hits and a throwing error, the Jr. Bills found themselves with the go ahead run in scoring position at second base. Then freshman Robby Bertucci hit a slow roller to the right side of the infield, scoring Alex Goedeker from third easily. The runner on second base, Joe Schwarz, “being his own coach, decided to make a full-out sprint to home, beating the throw. Pitcher Alex Goedeker made things interesting in the bottom of the 7th, but was able to get out of the jam and secure the victory.
