BACK to BACK
It took seventy points to decide game one of the class four Missouri state volleyball championship between the first-seeded Lafayette Lancers and the second-seeded SLUH Junior Billikens. Both teams had to fight off several game points as the two traded the lead until the Lancers finally pulled away to win 36-34. SLUH took an early lead in game two and would not let Lafayette back into the match, pushing to a 25-16 win and then jumping out to another quick lead in game three. A round of service errors nearly opened up a fresh opportunity for the Lancers, but SLUH finished strong behind solid performances from state-finals veterans John Swanston, Pete Hock and Mike Adams, a swell of support from the thundering SLUH crowd and intense energy from co-captain Jack Hughes. This was the last match for Hughes and Hock (also a co-captain) as well as for co-captain Justin Coles and rookie senior Kevin Steitz. The team is grateful to everyone who came out to support them in the playoffs.

A Tradition of Excellence
In the twelve years since boys Volleyball became a state sport in Missouri, SLUH’s program has distinguished itself among area schools by competing consistently among the top ranks. During that time, they have made five appearances in the state final and hoisted three first-place banners in the SLUH gym.
