Blue Captures Inaugural Jamboree Championship; White finishes 6th
The SLUH JV team split into two teams and had a successful weekend at the inaugural DeSmet Jesuit Jamboree at the outdoor pool in Maplewood.
The White team, led by Daniel Pike and Player-of-the-Weekend Rob Golterman played solid water polo for 3 games but could not find the victory column. They took a heartbreaking loss to Ladue in a shootout, playing their best game of the year. Pike paced the team with 7 goals over the weekend, while Golterman was Mr. Unselfish, tallying 5 assists. The team took 6th place.
The Blue team, comprised almost entire of sophomores, dominated all of their opponents, outscoring them by an amazing 60-9 margin in 4 games. Player-of-the-Weekend Matt Hohenberger was stellar between the pipes, giving up only 1 goal in each of the first 3 games. Overall, his GAA for the tournament was a freakish 2.25. Offensively, John Savio, Steve Sigman, & Will Derdeyn were almost unstoppable, scoring 16, 15, and 12 goals, respectively. Savio led the team with 12 'dimes' as well.
The team recombines to one and will finish off its season this week at the Conference Championship.
