Tutoring
St. Cecelia (elementary through middle)
Tutoring program meets one time a week after school to assist inner city elementary aged students to succeed academically.
Commitment for one semester.

St. Justin Martyr
Child care assistance program, play with kids, assist with homework, assist the director.
Volunteers expected to keep regular schedule and communicate plans to the director.

Casey's Angels (Our Lady of Providence and Annunciation)
After school tutoring program to help students improve academically. Volunteer is expected to be dependable.

Grand Oakhill Community Center
Tutoring and assisting with recreational programming on M, W, and Th. Swimming with students at local YMCA on Tuesday
Work with students aged 6-14
Volunteers must provide own transportation. Max 3 SLUH volunteers per day.
Loyola Academy (middle school)
Tutoring/mentoring program for students in grades 6, 7, and 8 during a proctored study hall.
Volunteers commit full semester and provide own transportation/carpool. Only 3-4 volunteers needed per day.
Special Archdiocesan Permission Form Required
International Institute (high school)
Tutoring program working with high school aged immigrant students in various subjects. Language is the main barrier.
Volunteer is expected to be dependable and culturally sensitive, and must fill out an application and go through orientation.
URBANFUTURE
A 1 on 1 mentoring program with students in grades 6, 7, and 8.
Volunteer meets once a week with paired student to build relationship with and assist "at risk" students.
Volunteer commits to one semester or longer.
Midtown Catholic Charities
Opportunities include Club group on Fri, Growth and Development Group on Mon, Tue, Wed, or Thurs, and Tutoring on Wed.
Volunteers model positive behavior while engaging kids in the various programs.
Tutoring is 1 on 1 relationship, with mandatory attendance.
Limits on number of SLUH students in various programs.
Believing Is Seeing
Once a week elementary school tutoring program helping students with Math and Language Arts.
One sports season commitment required of volunteer.
St. Louis Catholic Academy Tutoring
Volunteers tutor elementary age students in basic skills, especially math, language arts, and sciences.
Transportation provided.

Shelter Feeding Programs
Karen House (women and children)
A Catholic Worker shelter for Homeless Women and their children. Program does general cleanup and cooks a meal for residents on site.
Wear casual clothing. Transportation provided.
Sign up takes place outside of CSP office by noon on day of service.
Sts. Peter and Paul (men)
SLUH students and adult volunteers either prepare a meal or serve a meal for homeless men.
Meal prepared and cooked at SLUH. No cooking experience required.
Transportation provided for serving of meal.
SLUH student and parents encouraged to participate together.
Sports Programs
T.A.S.K. (Team Activities for Special Kids)
Volunteers supervise individual athletes with mental or physical handicaps.
Times and locations vary by sport and season. Please see flier in CSP office.
A six week commitment is required.
KEEN (Kids Enjoy Exercise Now)
Volunteers help mentally challenged students to have fun and exercise in a well-organized program.
Volunteers commit one Sunday per month, and coordinate with sports schedules.
First time volunteers must complete one hour orientation.
KEEN Swimming
Volunteers will swim and play with mentally challenged students.
No lifeguard certification is required.
Commitment is one Sunday per month.
YMCA
Volunteers serve as assistant coaches and referees for soccer and basketball.
Although first working with adult coaches, volunteers might eventually take over own team of youngsters.
Preschool Programs
Headstart (play supervision)
Active play supervision with children aged 3-5.
Activities include songs, games, help with snacks, and reading readiness exercises.
Volunteers will assist adult supervisors. Carpooling is recommended, although program is close enough to walk.
Humane Society (kind kids program)
A teaching program to help preschoolers to learn to care for animals.
Volunteers follow an established curriculum that includes preparing puppet shows, creating songs, wearing costumes, and occasionally handling animals with children.
Training session is required. Only 4 volunteers needed for fall session and 4 different volunteers for spring session.
Our Lady's Inn (child care)
Our Lady's Inn is a home for homeless pregnant women and their children.
Volunteer opportunities vary, but especially needed are babysitters on Tuesdays.
Other opportunities include cleaning, yard work, and computer work.
Required volunteer application can be obtained here.
South Side Day Nursery
Recreation and play with pre-school children (aged 3-5).
Only 8 SLUH volunteers per day. Volunteer must provide written proof of a negative TB test (SLUH nurse can read and document).
Volunteer needs to provide own transportation.
Mentoring Programs
Boy's Hope
Once a month, volunteers prepare and serve meal to Boy's Hope residents and develop healthy, "helping" relationships with at risk boys. Confidentiality is crucial.
Volunteers make full semester commitment. No cooking experience is required.
Meeting of volunteers required before first volunteer session.
Elderly Programs
McCormack House
Volunteers will visit, play games, and watch movies with residents of an independent living senior center.
Requirements include a happy heart and a willing spirit!
Fusz Pavilion
Volunteers visit with elderly Jesuits and play cards, checkers, and entertain with their sparkling personalities and talents.
Only 6 volunteers in program, and semester long commitment required.
Transportation provided.
Healthcare Programs
St. Louis Crisis Nursery
Volunteers will assist with children at a hospital based crisis nursery.
Activities including rocking babies, games with preschoolers, and assist with feeding.
Children stay at center for average of 3-4 days.
Requirements include interview with director, orientation prior to start, and proof of a negative TB test (SLUH nurse can read and verify).
Children's Hospital
Volunteers work in children's play area, information desk, etc.
Requirements include proof of a negative TB test, an application, an interview, and an orientation, and a 3 hour per week time commitment.
Volunteers should see specific guidelines in the CSP office.
Environmental Programs
Botanical Gardens
Volunteers man interpreter carts to enhance the visitors' experience.
Contribute by having fun with families and "teaching".
Volunteers participate in orientation and choose their own flexible hours.
Special (One Time) Flexible or Weekend Service Opportunities
St. Louis CO Parks (Clean Up)
Environmental clean up of county park areas.
Volunteers should see site file in CSP office for up-to-date information and available sites.

Autism Respite Program
Center for children and adolescents with varying degrees of autism.
Volunteers work with children and adult directors.
Requirements include an application and orientation process, and a commitment to one weekend per month (minimally).
St. Louis Science Center
Volunteers would assist with exhibits and visitors.
Application and orientation are required, as well as special parental permission.
Choosing your own flexible hours allows you to work around extracurriculars.
Thanksgiving Dinner
Volunteers serve Thanksgiving dinner to up to 300 people. Dinner served 5-7pm, but volunteers needed all day for help setting up, cooking, and cleaning up.

Catch A Falling Star
Volunteers will play games, do arts and crafts, read, play sports, use computers, and perform drama at this center for disabled children.
Requirements include an online application, an orientation process, and a 2 hour/week time commitment.
All applicants must be at least 16 years of age.
Design A Program
During the second semester of the year, a student can work with the CSP Director to create a service site
