Sophomore

What it is

Over the years, SLUH’s Sophomore retreat has gone through many iterations all focused on getting Sophomores to look back at their past two years as well as to look forward to their remaining two years. Unlike the Freshman Retreat, there will be more emphasis on class unity and trust, and will gear Sophomores to be more involved in their class activities.

A Look into the Future

Previous retreats have been enacted in daylong recollections to over-night retreats. Recently, until last year, the retreat was divided into three days; in each day a third of the Sophomore class would be taken out of class for the entire day to go to a retreat center (usually Camp Wyman or Todd Hall).

In the future we hope to integrate Sophomore retreat with the Sophomore interview and possible a Sophomore service day for a less rigid and more encompassing Sophomore pastoral experience.

After some consideration, we hope to use the Sophomore retreat as a day long examine, featuring three activities in a single day with the entire Sophomore class taking place at SLUH instead of going off to a camp site. On that day, all other students will be off, and the faculty will be asked to volunteer for service.

 Retreat Days and details

The Sophomore reflection is set for March 30, 2012 and is mandatory for all Sophomores. More information will be sent out to parents as the date approaches.

Mr. Brian Gilmore, the Director of SLUH Retreat Program, is in charge of implementing this new day of reflection. Currently, he is working with Mr. Corley (the new Sophomore Class Moderator), Dr. Moran, Dr. Bannister (who has been in charge of the Sophomore Interview), Fr. Heumann (who had ran the Sophomore Retreat in the past), and Fr. Tran. If you have questions about the Sophomore reflection, please feel free to contact any of the above.
