IN THE NEWS

ACES hosted a forum entitled "From Fear to Understanding: A Civil Public Conversation on Muslim and Non-Muslim Relations in America” at SLUH on September 21, 2010. This forum helped to address the increased negative dialogue regarding Muslim Americans, otherwise known as Islamophobia.

Forum panel members include Rev. Robert Tabscott (Historian & founder of the Elijah P. Lovejoy Society), Rabbi Joseph Rosenbloom (scholar on Judea/Muslim relations and adjunct professor in classics at Washington University), Mr. Kabir Muhammad (Managing Consultant for Positive Alternatives for Youth Inc./Gang Consultant), and Father Michael Brunner (Headmaster, St. Louis Priory High School and scholar on Christian/Muslim relations).

About 150 people were in attendance.  According to Chip Clatto, "We received positive feedback and the forum panel was well received." The overall theme was greater understanding of how Judaism, Islam, and Christianity are so very closely related. Other topics included unity, speaking out against injustice, discovering the truth in rhetoric, and the media becoming more responsible in their reporting.
