Racquetball Team Places Third in Nation

St. Louis University High School's racquetball squad has placed third in the 2007 USRA High School National Tournament held in South County of St. Louis. The Jr. Bills were topped by defending and repeat champions of Oregon, the Beaverton Beavers, and second-place LaSalle, also from Oregon. CBC placed fourth.

"It was a roller coaster year of exciting play, injuries, great personal victories and frustrating losses," says head coach Dr. Joe Koestner. "The play at Nationals was at times extraordinary, and I am very proud of these Jr. Bills. The fact that every player on JV- 1, 2 and 3 won State titles and we have a host of talented freshmen coming up bodes well for the year to come."

SLUH finished the regular season undefeated, lost the State Championship by one tie-breaker and missed second place at Nationals by one match. Senior standouts Ben Brooks and Drew Burkemper, who were instrumental in the team's success, received All-America honors. They were the first to receive the honors in three years.

In its storied racquetball history, SLUH has earned nine State Championships (1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005) and three National Championships (1998, 2003 and 2004).
