Perfect ACTs Reach Double Digits
Jack Berger '09 has become the tenth student at St. Louis University High School to earn a perfect ACT score in recent years. After taking the test in June, he became one of only eight Missouri students to achieve a 36, the highest possible composite score.
Berger took the test previously in April and earned a 33. When he learned about scoring a 36, he says he "was very surprised."
"I was hoping to get a 34, or perhaps a 35," says Berger. "I was concerned about my reading score, so I did not expect to get a 36."
Berger, a member of the varsity hockey and tennis teams, attributes his success, at least in part, to taking Mr. Hannick's ACT Prep Course. "The class helped a lot," says Berger. "Mr. Hannick provided a lot of helpful advice."
Berger says he may attend college "somewhere on the East Coast, perhaps an Ivy League school."
More than 410,000 students took the ACT in June, and Berger was one of only 162 in the entire nation and abroad to earn a 36.
In 2007, the ACT organization recognized SLUH at its annual conference in Columbia for the impressive performance of SLUH's Class of 2006. SLUH was only one of a few high schools in the State of Missouri to have had one or more students achieve a score of 36 on the ACT.
"The academic success our young men achieve is a reflection of our outstanding teaching staff, as well as our dynamic curriculum that challenges each student to think critically," says John Moran, Ed.D., Principal of SLUH.
Since 2004, SLUH has had 10 students earn a 36 on the ACT:
Matt Ampleman '06 earned a 36 as a senior in 2005
Paul Barker '05 earned a 36 as a senior in 2004
