Linhares Honored as Track Coach of the Year
St. Louis University High School track coach Jim Linhares led his team to the school's first-ever state title this past spring. Now, Coach Linhares has been named the 2006 Class 4 Track Coach of the Year by the Missouri Track & Cross Country Coaches Association (MTCCCA)."It was such an honor to receive the award, but more importantly it makes a statement for our entire coaching staff," says Linhares.
The award was presented at the MTCCCA's annual clinic held in Columbia, Missouri December 8-9. More than 500 people attended the event.
Linhares, who has served as SLUH's track coach for four years and as the cross country coach for 25 years, says the state title meet ranks as his fondest track memory. "The state meet was so exciting because it was so close. It was exhilarating to see how our team persevered to display their true character and talent."
