Help SLUH reach 100% participation!

September 19, 2011

Dear Parents,

It’s hard to believe the school year is already underway.  The relaxing pace of the summer has been replaced with the non-stop, constant motion of carpools, sports, and countless other activities that pull on our time.  I know this can be a dizzying time of year.  But, as you get settled into the routines of the school year, I would ask you to prayerfully consider making a financial contribution to the St. Louis U. High Parent Annual Fund as a sign of your support for our mission.

Last year we kicked off a revamped Parent Annual Giving Program focused on achieving participation among our entire parent body.  The results were terrific: over 90% of our families made a gift .  This year, we are setting our sights again at 100%, confident that with your help, we can get there.

Many people ask me: why do you ask for a gift?  Because the need is real.  This year, the cost of educating your sons outpaces the tuition charged by roughly $2.7 million – a $2,500 ‘gap’ or subsidy provided to each student, a proud tradition of SLUH dating back to when Anna Backer created the Backer Endowment in 1927.  But, we know that even with this tuition ‘gap,’ a SLUH education is still a costly investment.  Additionally, one-third of our students receive direct financial aid to help make it possible for them to experience the U. High.  In the last 5 years our financial aid has nearly tripled to its present amount of $2.8 million.   In sum SLUH provides some $5.5 million of financial assistance across the student body.

Your support of the Parent Annual Fund means so much to me, but the greatest beneficiaries are those closest to you: the young men of St. Louis U. High.  You can make a gift now online by clicking here.  Otherwise, in the coming weeks, you will be hearing from parents from your class and they will be asking you to help in this effort.  Some of you may be asked to be a part of our giving societies.  But, I hope all of you will give as generously as you can.  Your gift helps your own son, his best friend, and a boy in a different grade you’ve never met.  What could be more meaningful?

As always, thank you so much for trusting us to help shape these boys into men for others

Very truly yours,

John J. Moran, Ed.D.
Principal
