School Counseling

St. Louis U. High school counselors work individually with students to guide them through the Jesuit ideals of self-understanding, discovering gifts through bravery and innovation, and engaging with others through a positive attitude and goal-centered action.

Students and their parents encouraged to utilize SLUH school counselors to address concerns or challenges in their personal, social or academic lives. The counseling staff will listen, advise and refer students and their families to other professional resources if necessary.

School counselors will also help students find opportunities both inside and outside of school to develop their interests and gifts so they can continue to grow and reach their personal goals.

Students meet with their school counselor to discuss:

  • Adjusting to academic rigor as high school progresses
  • Learning strategies for academic success
  • Goal setting
  • Exploring careers and interests through classes, activities, clubs, and summer programs
  • Class scheduling with graduation and college in mind
  • Going through life transitions
  • Staying safe
  • Making big decisions
  • Personal counseling
  • Crisis counseling

All SLUH school counselors have college counseling experience and incorporate their knowledge into the work of preparing students for their social, emotional and academic journey into college and for life beyond.
