SLUH Alumni Service Corps

A transformational post-college volunteer program for Jr. Bill alumni

Moving Ahead by Giving Back

What does an ASC volunteer do?

  • Serve for a year as a faculty member, living in the community and commiting to growth in the Ignatian tradition.
  • Serve students out of gratitude for their Jesuit education.
  • Teach two sections in an area of competence and immerse in the life of the school: coaching, tutoring, club moderating, service programs, campus ministry.
  • Support students from a unique position and offer them a model of the Graduate at Graduation.

Any alumni of SLUH who have graduated college within the last two years are eligible to apply for the SLUH ASC program.

Projected Needs for Academic Year 2025-26

While applicants may be placed in the specific roles listed below, it is recognized that SLUH needs may shift over time and flexibility is valued when aligning applicants' unique gifts and talents with the needs of the school. All applicants should also be ready to support Campus Ministry in a variety of ways. Current needs include teachers in English, Science and Social Studies.

Spirituality

SLUH ASC volunteers are regarded as members of the faculty. They provide a witness of generosity in which they wish to share and grow through their integration of Ignatian service and spirituality. This takes on a number of different forms, but the most significant are retreats spread throughout the academic year in which volunteers gather to reflect on their experiences, share stories and seek to notice God at work through their Ignatian service.

Community

SLUH ACS volunteers live in an intentional community at a residence provided by SLUH. The community consists of three to four volunteers – each individual with a full and unique set of responsibilities at the school and schedules that vary from person to person. The volunteers will discern a common understanding for what they will intentionally do to cultivate community with their fellow volunteers, e.g. common meals, prayer, outings, etc.
