Our Mission & Philosophy
Our athletic program affirms and promotes the Ignatian values articulated in the Profile of the Graduate at Graduation (Grad at Grad) while engaging student-athletes fully in mind, body and spirit. Student-athletes, coaches and parents are called upon to work together in a true spirit of sportsmanship to foster an environment in which those Ignatian values are revealed and celebrated.
The student-athlete learns through participation in athletics that God is active in all things and that individual and liturgical prayer will bring him closer to God. He comes to trust that he is known and loved by God. This love invites a personal response – an expression of movement within the human heart extending beyond self interest or self centeredness – to be a Man for Others and to further the common good For the Greater Glory of God.
Our Sports
Baseball, bowling, basketball, cross country, esports, football, golf, ice hockey, inline hockey, lacrosse, racquetball, riflery, rugby, soccer, swim & dive, tennis, track & field, ultimate frisbee, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
Our Conference
A founding member of the Metro Catholic Conference (MCC), SLUH routinely captures the MCC All-Sports Trophy, awarded to the member school with the best conference finish in all sports. The Jr. Billikens most recently earned this award in 2023-24.
Our Coaches
Our coaches are first and foremost Jesuit educators who use sports to present and reinforce meaningful life lessons. These lessons focus on the values expressed in the Profile of the Jesuit Graduate at Graduation.
Cura Personalis, or care for the whole person, is a central Ignatian priority embraced by our coaches. This means demonstrating clarity, consistency and compassion with an underlying care for and appreciation of the student-athlete, even while challenging him to do better.
"The most important thing I learned as an athlete at SLUH is to fight through all odds, no matter how daunting they may seem."
