On an unseasonably warm, cloudy, and windy November morning in Columbia, SLUH finished in ninth place in the large school classification of the MSHSAA Cross Country Championships, the highest placing St. Louis-area team in Class 5. Kansas City's Liberty North won their school's first team title with a score of 77 points, and Liberty North junior Sage Wilde broke away for the individual title in a 5k time of 15:05.
Senior captain Tim Greiner led the way for us in 28th place. Tim was the fifth-fastest runner from St. Louis in the race, and he improved nearly 30 places from his State position a year previous. Junior Anthony Zangara had his finest race yet, running a PR of 16:33 for 47th place. Rounding out our team score were senior Carter Lowe, junior Charlie Murray, and freshman Jaden Elgin. Finishing in 84th place, Jaden became the highest-placing freshman finisher at State in our program's history.
Thanks to all who supported and cheered on the team, whether in person or by tracking the live results online. We are grateful for the investment and hard work of all team members. The 2022 season was another season filled with hard work, successes, fun times, and lasting memories. All involved in the SLUH Cross Country program should be proud of what they and the team accomplished. Good luck to those competing at NXR next Sunday and the Run for ALD the weekend after!
