Morning Prayer

All:
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

All: Oh Lord, open our lips to praise your holy name. Cleanse our hearts of any evil or distracting thoughts. Give us the wisdom and love necessary to pray with attention, reverence, and devotion. We offer this prayer in the name of Jesus, the Lord. Amen.

All Fathers: My soul rests in God alone, from whom comes my salvation.

SLUH Sons: God alone is my rock and salvation, my fortress; I shall never fall.

De Smet Sons: My soul, be at rest in God alone, from whom comes my hope. God alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not fall.

SLUH Sons: My deliverance and honor are with God, my strong rock; my refuge is with God.

All: Trust God at all times, my people! Pour out your hearts to God our refuge!

De Smet Sons: Mortals are a mere breath, the sons of man but an illusion; On a balance they rise; together they weigh nothing.

SLUH Sons: Do not trust in extortion; in plunder put no empty hope. On wealth that increases, do not set your heart.

De Smet Sons: One thing God has said; two things I have heard: Strength belongs to God.

SLUH Sons: So too, my Lord, does mercy, For you repay each man according to his deeds.

All: My soul rests in God alone, from whom comes my salvation.

Reader: A reading from St. Paul's first letter to the Thessalonians.

We do not want you to be unaware, brothers, about those who have fallen asleep, so that you may not grieve like the rest, who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose, so too will God, through Jesus, bring with him those who have fallen asleep. Indeed, we tell you this, on the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will surely not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself, with a word of command, with the voice of an archangel and with the trumpet of God, will come down from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore, console one another with these words. The Word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God.

All Fathers: Let us now offer our needs to God. The response to each intercessions is: Lord, hear our prayer.

SLUH Fathers: For fidelity in hearing God’s Word and in proclaiming God’s praise, we pray to the Lord...

De Smet Fathers: For Jesus’ own poverty of spirit to strengthen our Church and parishes; for a commitment to service to our neighbor in His example, we pray to the Lord...

SLUH Sons: For an end to terrorism, war, abuse, and the degradation of human dignity, we pray to the Lord...

De Smet Sons: For our Church, that she may be guided by the Holy Spirit to a spirit of openness and recovery in the midst of a period of great pain, and for victims of sexual abuse and sexual violence, that they may find healing and feel the peace of Christ, we pray to the Lord...

SLUH Fathers: For all souls buried at Greenwood, for their families that mourned their passing, and for the peace of their descendants today, we pray to the Lord...

De Smet Fathers: For the good and selfless work of the Greenwood Cemetery Preservation Association in honoring those buried in this holy place, we pray to the Lord...

SLUH Sons: For the benefactors to De Smet Jesuit and SLUH, that we use their gifts to magnify the Kingdom of God in the lives of those our community encounters, let us pray to the Lord...

De Smet Sons: For the needs each of us holds in the silence of our hearts, let us pray to the Lord...

All: We lift up our prayers as we pray in the words that Jesus taught us:

All: Our Father...

All Fathers: Gracious God, fill our hearts with your love, as morning fills the sky. By living a life worthy of the calling we have received, may we have your peace in this life and endless joy in the life to come. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, One God, for ever and ever.

All: Amen.

All Fathers: May Almighty God send his blessing upon us, protect us from evil, and bring us one day to everlasting life. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

All: Amen.

All Fathers: Let us go in peace.

All: Thanks be to God.
