The Backer Award is the highest award granted by St. Louis U. High. It is an award only alumni who have served extraordinarily in every aspect of their life, from their job to their community to their faith, can achieve. This year, at the annual awards assembly, there were two recipients: Joe Pichler ’57 and Fr. Thomas Michel, S.J. ’59.

Scholar Bowl Team Taken Back to The Nest, Losing Handily to The Ravens of Priory.

In the epic finale to the St. Louis U. High Scholar Bowl team’s season, the Jr. Bills played in the District Tournament, going up against two scholarly behemoths in Priory and Ladue. Although the team placed fourth out of seven teams by the end of the tournament, all the students played their best, demonstrating the growth of the Scholar Bowl team.

De Smet’s plan to have a middle school raises the possibility of SLUH doing the same.

Over the past few decades, St. Louis U. High has grown significantly and will continue to grow. Could this growth be beyond just SLU High? Almost two months ago, De Smet Jesuit High School announced that they would begin a sixth, seventh, and eighth grade for the 2025-2026 school year. Will SLUH follow in De Smet’s footsteps and attempt to start a middle school as well?

Ultimate Frisbee breaks seed at Indy Invite; struggles in league play

“Rome wasn’t built in a day.” A quote that summarizes how Ultimate Frisbee is looking to traverse the upcoming season and years ahead of it. With the loss of eight class of 2023 members and due to some injuries, the squad has relied heavily on the current seniors and freshmen in both recent league games and the Indy Invite, the team’s latest out of town tournament.

Golf succeeds at Fort Zumwalt tourney, struggles against MCC opponents

The golfers of St. Louis U. High faced a series of tough opponents these past two weeks, enduring matches against MICDS, Chaminade, De Smet, and CBC. The team also finished first at Winghaven Country Club in the Fort Zumwalt West Tournament and seventh at Dalhousie Golf Course in the Notre Dame Tournament. 

Volleyball can’t find rhythm in De Smet double header, Belleville East matchup

Coming off of a powerful 4-2 record, the St. Louis U. High volleyball program failed to capitalize in its three most recent matchups against some of the areas toughest competition, losing 3-1 to De Smet, 3-2 to De Smet again, and 3-1 to Belleville East and showing the early kinks in the chemistry between the young and promising Jr. Bills varsity team.

After an initial loss to Lindbergh, tennis bounces back against Priory

The Varsity Tennis team faced a challenging week with two matches that tested their skills, determination, and spirit. A week of powerful forehands, graceful backhands, precise serves, and aggressive volleys from the Jr. Bills culminated in a tough loss against Lindbergh, but ended with a close and thrilling victory against Priory.

There's a new buzz in the iLab … and it isn’t a table saw. The space is set to get a major facelift in the coming years, especially because its use will now be incorporated into new classes. Alongside these new changes the director of the Innovation Lab, Jeff Schaefer, will be stepping down from his position at the end of the year.
