The Beginning

"In the fall of 1818, the Missouri Gazette carried an announcement: 'The Reverend Mr. Francis Niel, assisted by three other clergymen and under the auspices and superintendence of the Rt. Rev. Bishop will open on 16 November next, in the house of Mrs. Alvarez, Church Street, an academy for young gentlemen.' This was the beginning of St. Louis University High..."

At the conclusion of the Bicentennial Mass on April 21, 2018, a proclamation from Mayor Lyda Krewson was announced: November 16, 2018 will be "St. Louis U. High Day" in the City of St. Louis.

On Thursday, November 15, hundreds of parent and alumni volunteers raised awareness and funds to support the scholarship program at SLUH.

Our students planned to mark St. Louis U. High Day with an urban pilgrimage throughout the city, including a visit to area near the north leg of the Arch, the general site of Mrs. Alvarez's home in 1818. However, the inclement weather and uncertainty of pilgrimage route conditions postponed this part of our celebration until the Spring of 2019. You can still follow along on social media today, though, as we highlight some of the most outstanding parts of our history and look forward to more excellence into our third century!
