Class of '81 - Mike Feder Memorial Scholarship gifts

Our class president, Mike Feder, was an embodiment of the Jesuit tradition of "men for others." At the 35-year reunion in 2016, many of us shared fond memories of "Feds" and how he touched our lives – and the lives of so many others – before his untimely death from brain cancer in 2012. In these conversations, the idea of a memorial scholarship was born.

With leadership from over 15 members of the Class of '81, we have undertaken the task to fully-endow this memorial scholarship prior to our 40-year reunion. This is an audacious goal, since a fully-endowed scholarship at SLUH requires gifts totaling $300,000. But we feel confident that our class has the capacity and generosity to meet this goal over the next four years.

As of June 2021, we have gifts and pledges totaling $152,933 to the fund.  We need further support to reach our goal.

Some have asked about donating stocks or other appreciated securities, as this is a very tax-wise method of giving.

Giving Publicly-Traded Stock

Giving appreciated stock is one of the most tax-wise methods of making a gift to SLUH. You receive an income tax deduction for the current market value of the stock, and you avoid capital gains tax. CLICK HERE for a printable instruction sheet on making a gift of stock to SLUH.
