AMDG: Ignatian Spirituality for
SLUH Parents

AMDG Program

Welcome to A.M.D.G., the Parent Spirituality program at St. Louis University High School.  We are so glad that you are here!

A.M.D.G. is a collaboration between the SLUH Parent Organizations, SLUH Administration and SLUH Faculty.  Through this collaboration we offer four evening gatherings throughout the academic year to support spiritual formation for SLUH parents and to upbuild community.  The purpose of A.M.D.G. is to:

  • Offer parents an opportunity to learn more about Ignatian Spirituality;
  • Create a space for community-building and connection;
  • Lay a pathway for parents to accompany our sons in their faith journeys.

Our A.M.D.G. gatherings include Mass at 6:30 p.m. followed by a presentation by an invited speaker with Q + A and small group conversation inspired by the book "What is Ignatian Spirituality?" by Fr. David Fleming, S.J.  The evening also includes light refreshments and opportunities for community building with other SLUH parents.  All A.M.D.G. gatherings are free of charge and everyone is warmly invited and encouraged to join us.  The session dates are listed below.

Please reach out to Aimee Wittman, A.M.D.G. Parent Coordinator, at aimeewittman@gmail.com with any questions or if you would like further information.

Thank you so much in advance and we look forward to meeting you at an A.M.D.G. gathering this year.

OUR MISSION

For the Greater Glory of God and the spiritual health of our families, we gather to learn about the spirituality of St. Ignatius, growing closer to God and one another in faith and friendship. Each talk will explore a different chapter of the book What is Ignatian Spirituality? by David L. Fleming, SJ '52, available for free online HERE.

Director of Campus Ministry and alumnus, Fr. Matthew Stewart, SJ, led AMDG on April 7.  In "Take, Lord, Receive", Fr. Stewart discusses the Suscipe. The Suscipe is a prayer that Ignatius of Loyola wrote to punctuate his Spiritual Exercises to help the retreatant respond to all of the gifts and work that God has done on our behalf. In this talk, Fr. Stewart reflects on the context in which St. Ignatius of Loyola’s famous Suscipe prayer arises in the Exercises and discusses some of the important spiritual insights Ignatius provides in this prayer.
