As synonymous with St. Louis University High as Ignatius, the name "Backer" lives on in perpetuity at SLUH thanks to the generosity of Anna F. Backer and her desire to honor her husband, George H. Backer, Class of 1869, after his death. Their gifts to the students of SLUH supported the young Jr. Bills in the 1920's - when Backer Memorial was constructed - and still do so today.
The Backer's Backers recurring gift program is created in that same spirit of a dedicated focus on generosity to SLUH through monthly giving.
Why publicize a recurring gift program?
Establishing an online recurring gift is an easy way for a loyal Jr. Billiken to make his Annual Fund donation on a monthly basis and for an indefinite amount of time. Utilizing monthly payments may allow our alumni increase their total annual contribution.
What if I have previously established a recurring monthly gift?
Thank you! You're automatically "in" and an inaugural member of Backer's Backers.
What about recurring gifts with other frequencies?
Our online giving system allows for quarterly and semi-annual (2 payments per year) recurring gift setup. Donations of $30 quarterly or $60 semi-annually qualify for Backer's Backers.
What does Backer's Backers mean?
Anna F. Backer's generosity to SLUH has affected generations of SLUH students and alumni and the main school building is named "Backer Memorial" in their honor. In fact, after the campus opened in 1924, having no children of her own, Mrs. Backer would affectionately refer to the students as "her boys." The program name continues to honor the ongoing impact of the Backer family.
What are the benefits of joining Backer's Backers?
In addition to knowing that you're a perpetual supporter of our Jr. Bills, each member of Backer's Backers will receive a special gift around Christmas in the year that he commits to the program.
