Veteran broadcaster has called exciting action for the Tour de France, MLB, NBA and PGA, but his most acclaimed moment came during his fourth consecutive Olympics this winter in PyeongChang, South Korea.
Schlanger described the women’s cross-country team sprint final, in which Jessica Diggins won in a frantic comeback to give the Americans a huge upset victory in an Olympic event they never had won. He and emotionally-charged analyst Chad Salmela made an epic call, one the Minneapolis Star-Tribune dubbed “the call heard round the world for these Olympics.” Their gold-medal call trended on social media and was featured prominently in media outlets worldwide.
Braden Kramer '20 recently sat down with Schlanger to talk about his time at SLUH as well as his experience as a broadcaster, including his unforgettable Olympics call.
