INSIGNIS (Latin, adjective): notable, distinguished
SLUH's new INSIGNIS podcast features lively interviews with members of our school community engaged in a variety of roles and fascinating projects "down the hall, across the Metro area and around the world" in support of our mission.
The first INSIGNIS interview, conducted by Jim Linhares, Assistant Principal for Mission, features fine arts teacher Kevin McKernan '01.
McKernan, a graduate of Indiana University, taught at Loyola Academy in Chicago, Brebeuf Jesuit in Indianapolis, Visitation Academy and DeSmet Jesuit before arriving at SLUH in 2013. He teaches Film, Oral Communications and Acting Improv, in addition to directing shows.
"I like feeling that I can give something back to a place that has meant so much to me throughout my life," McKernan says. "I don't know who I would be if I didn't have the experiences I had as a student here."
McKernan performs and teaches improv at The Improv Shop in the Grove for fun. He and his wife Erin have a dog named Henry and are expecting their first child (a boy) in February.
Without further ado...enjoy Linhares' engaging conversation with McKernan, touching on the art of improv, the power of failure and SLUH legend Joe Schulte '54, in the first installment of INSIGNIS!
