Junior Class

Two standardized tests will take place in sophomore / junior year: the PSAT and the ACT.

PSAT/NMSQT

While the sophomore PSAT is just for practice, the top one-third of testers will be invited in their junior year to test again and attempt to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program.

ACT

SLUH College Counseling recommends students complete their first official ACT in either December or February of junior year. Plan to register 2-3 months ahead of your selected test date, and register for test prep at least one month before then. Visit sluh.org/act to learn about test prep with Mr. Craig Hannick.

NOTE: All SLUH students will complete an official ACT at SLUH in Spring of junior year.

Juniors should consider applying for the senior leadership positions below. Application dates/deadlines change annually, but will often take place in the Spring of junior year.

• Senior Advisor
• Senior Retreat Leader
• StuCo Auxiliary Roles
• Distinguished Ambassadors

The Class of 2028 will kick off their college process with College Counseling on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Si Commons. This is when students will be assigned their specific college counselor.

While the seniors are serving at their Senior Project sites in January, juniors will be encouraged to take part in Junior January — an opportunity to lead various formational events while the senior class is away. Contact Mr. Frank Corley (StuCo Moderator) or Mr. Chris Buerke (Junior Class Moderator) with questions.

Students will receive information about ordering their class rings from Jostens, our ring provider, in Advisory on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. Jostens will return to campus for sizing and ring orders in the following week(s). See order dates below.

• Last Names A-L: Monday, October 12
• Last Names M-Z: Wednesday, October 14

The Class of 2028 will celebrate their Junior Ring Mass, ceremony and dance on Friday, April 23, 2027. All juniors are expected to attend the Mass and ceremony. Parents of juniors are invited and encouraged to attend. Contact Mr. Chris Buerke (Junior Class Moderator) with additional questions.

Eligible juniors may apply for NHS. Though most applicants will come from the sophomore class, junior year is a good time to continue growing in scholarship, leadership, character and service — the four pillars of NHS.

All juniors are required to attend Kairos, which is an overnight retreat (3 days, 2 nights). Students list date preferences in May and are assigned to their specific Kairos in early August.

There is no formal service requirement for juniors.
