First Semester Exams: (Kane)

After a long, much-needed winter break, students returned to SLUH having finished their first semester exams. The exams were held from Friday, December 16th to Wednesday, December 21st. Some students gave it their all, studying and preparing weeks before the exams started. Others, who shall not be named, crammed the night before in a desperate attempt to at least get a passing grade.

First Semester Grades Due: (Kane)

With exams having such an influence on one’s grades, students were eager to check over the holiday break which classes they passed with flying colors, and which classes might send them to summer school. Anxiety was through the roof for the students of Saint Louis University High. Of course, there’s always a few stragglers… Some students found themselves emailing their teachers for help, scrambling for extra credit assignments in a desperate attempt to improve their grade. However, all those long days of working and stressful late nights of studying came to a close as students finished the first semester of the year.

Freshman Switch Classes: (Colton)

As a new semester comes afoot many students will transition into new classes. The switch between the Fine Art courses and Human Geography for freshmen is bringing about many emotions for the new semester. The students who have had Human Geography now get the chance to experience the fine art they chose that long time ago. Many freshmen are highly anticipating this change. However, the many students who had a fine art course are sad to leave their class, but ready for a new challenge.

Boil Order

Upon returning to school on Tuesday, SLUH was met with an unexpected boil order. The precautionary boil advisory was for parts of North and South city. Students were sent an  email at around 8:00 a.m. by Director of Facilities Joe Rankin providing the information about the boil order, and signs were placed on water fountains throughout the school.

Once aware, students became much more frugal with their suddenly precious water. Water bottles quickly sold out in the servery. Those who got a lucky bottle did their best to stretch the water through to the end of the day. As the final stretch of Tuesday began, some students made plans about what kind of bottle they would bring the next school day. Milk jugs were even brought up as a suitable water vessel. However, on Wednesday at around 9:00 a.m. the boil order was lifted, bringing immediate relief to students. After the boil order was lifted, many students were left with heavy and inconvenient water bottles.

Media Center

Where did all your favorite clubs move to? As the next phase in construction begins to wrap up, the Claude Heithaus, SJ Media Center is beginning to open its doors to some of SLUH’s most popular groups. Moving into the old Main Office, Prep News, Yearbook, Gadfly, Sisyphus, SLUH Media, the Insignis podcast, and Photography will all be relocated to the new media center. Each group will have its own office spaces, and there will be a common work space featuring couches, tables, and computers. These changes will leave parts of the second floor J-wing vacant for the future temporary home of the English office.
