Conversation of the week: Keenan Harris

This week I conversated outside in the 90 degree heat with freshman Keenan Harris, the starting safety for the SLUH varsity football team. Harris has recorded 33 total tackles so far this season and scored his first touchdown this past Friday to help the Jr. Bills in their first win of the season against Vashon.

Austin Wald: You’ve had a great couple of games this season and not many freshmen get to start on varsity so how does it feel to be one of those few?

Keenan Harris: It feels really good being able to go out there and play. But I mean, football is football. I’m just focused on going out there and working.

AW: And what was it like getting your first high school win against Vashon the other night?

KH: It felt great blowing them out for the first win and I got to finally get in the end zone for the first time.

AW: Yeah, how’d that touchdown feel?

KH: It just felt amazing catching that pass and getting to the end zone.

AW: Who’s the toughest player you’ve gone up against this season?

KH: The toughest players I’ve gone against this season have probably been, I’d say there’s a couple of guys. Jamal Roberts from St. Mary’s and Jerimiyah Love from CBC were tough for sure.

AW: What would you say your biggest highlight of the season has been?

KH: My biggest highlight this year was probably in game two. I had 14 tackles against Timberland.

AW: Good stuff. Do you have any goals of playing football after high school?

KH: Yeah, my goal is to play college football and maybe one day make it to the league.

AW: What’s your favorite thing to get from the servery?

KH: Skittles.

AW: I respect that.
