Week 9 Fantasy Football Recap

Another wacky week of football fell upon us in Week 9. With lots of upsets such as the Jaguars over the Bills, or the Broncos over the Cowboys, this week was far from ordinary. The same can be said on the fantasy side of football as there were very few fantasy fireworks from the core fantasy players. In one of my personal 12-man leagues, the league-high was 127 points and the second-highest scorer was 116. Despite this low-scoring week of football,  let’s take a look at the fantasy players that lit up the scoreboard:

RB-James Conner, 40.3

James Conner dominated the 49ers on Sunday with quarterback Kyler Murray and wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins out with injuries. Now with Chase Edmonds sidelined for a couple of weeks, Conner is a must-start against the Panthers. He was already receiving lots of red zone touches but now he will take over most of Edmonds’ work as well.

WR-Elijah Moore, 27.4

The Jets offense has actually been functional since the injury to Zach Wilson. And while Moore’s numbers in the past three weeks look promising, keep in mind that Corey Davis was injured for the past two. With Corey Davis set to return this week and the Jets’ constant change at the quarterback position, I would only recommend relying on Elijah Moore in deeper leagues.

TE-Pat Freiermuth, 21.3

Pittsburgh Steelers’ Pat Freiermuth has been a very pleasant surprise in fantasy the past three weeks. Since Eric Ebron got injured, Freiermuth has put up double-digit points in every game, reaching 20 points in his most recent outing. He gets lots of volume for a tight end in an offense with limited athleticism at the wide receiver position. With points being hard to find at the tight end position, if Freiermuth is somehow still available in your league you should pick him up immediately.

And the stars who failed to live up to expectations:

WR- Ja’Marr Chase, 8.9

The past two weeks for Ja’Marr Chase have seen a decrease in his fantasy output. Putting up about 13 and 9 points respectively, the Bengals offense has been brought back down to earth after their hot 5-2 start to the season. While I would not expect Chase to continue putting up these poor numbers, I would also not expect him to continue his WR3 numbers as well. Consider Chase to be a low-end WR1 that you can start every week, just not putting up the ridiculous numbers he was putting up in the first six to seven weeks of the season.

WR-DJ Moore, 7.6

Sam Darnold’s quarterback play has been very uninspiring since the Panthers’ 3-1 start. Moore’s production has declined simultaneously with Darnold’s poor play. However, Darnold will miss a few weeks due to injury and PJ Walker will be stepping in at quarterback. I would be optimistic for this week to see if the change in quarterback will lead to more fantasy production. Keep him in your lineups for this week unless he continues to underperform in Week 10.

RB-Aaron Jones, 5.3

In a game where the Packers should have utilized the run game more with rookie quarterback Jordan Love in, Aaron Jones only logged 12 rushing attempts. However, I would not worry about this game too much as the Packers couldn't get anything going offensively. When Aaron Rodgers gets back the Packers will be able to manage and balance the offense much more efficiently. Don’t worry about taking Jones out of your lineups.
