Fantasy Football Week 7

After two weeks of not supplying the fantasy footballers of the U High with advice, here are our starts and sits of Week 7.

Bailey Zappe, QB, Patriots: Start. It’s Zappe Hour in New England. The fourth round rookie out of Western Kentucky who filled in for the injured Mac Jones has made quite the first impression. In each of his first three starts, he has gotten progressively better and even threw for over 300 yards last week against the Browns. He gets a favorable Week 7 matchup against the Bears who have given up the ninth most passing yards per attempt. It should be a fairly competitive game, which means Zappe will get the usage required to be relevant in fantasy. If you are looking for a replacement this week at QB, we encourage you to look at Bailey Zappe against the Bears.

Russell Wilson, QB, Broncos: Sit. The Denver Broncos tried to “Let Russ Cook” and the reviews so far haven’t been positive. His collapse in the second half of last week's game against the Chargers was the final straw for us. He had a sub 35 percent completion percentage to close the game, and is beginning to lose the trust of his receivers and of the locker room. Furthermore, he tweaked his hamstring last week and won’t be fully healthy in the Week 7 matchup against a feisty Jets defense. Mr. Unlimited should be limited to your bench this week indefinitely, until he turns it around.

Kenneth Walker III, RB, Seahawks: Start. Kenneth Walker shined last week in the absence of Rashaad Penny, who is currently sidelined with a fractured fibula. It isn’t his 100-yard one TD performance last week that impresses us the most, it’s his usage. He was top 10 in snap count, carries, and had enough targets to keep him viable. Those numbers are a recipe for fantasy success week after week. We like the rookie out of Michigan State a lot this week against the Chargers who have given up the fourth most points to fantasy running backs this season, and recommend starting him in all formats.

J.K. Dobbins, RB, Ravens: Sit. Dobbins has been disappointing this season. After an explosion against Buffalo for 22.3 points in week 4, he has failed to get even 5 points in each of the last two games. Dobbins is shaping up to be a touchdown dependent and boom or bust type of player. With the return of Gus Edwards looming and Kenyan Drake taking a larger workload, Dobbins is in a precarious position. Additionally, the Ravens leading rusher and quarterback, Lamar Jackson, will likely increase his presence through the air after a surprising loss to the Giants. We are benching Dobbins and staying away from the Ravens backfield in Week 7.

Brandon Aiyuk, WR, 49ers: Start. Brandon Aiyuk broke out for two touchdowns last week against the Falcons. The third year receiver has been sneakily productive in Shannahans’ offense this season. He has eight-plus targets in three of the last five games and has run the most routes out of any other receiver on his team the last two weeks. In addition, we think Aiyuk is primed for a breakout Week 7 against the Chiefs. Kansas City is a large favorite in this matchup which means the 49ers will be forced to be on a pass heavy game script. This means only good things for Aiyuk. We are starting him wherever we can this week.

Juju Smith–Schuster, WR, Chiefs: Sit. Last week Tik-Tok star Juju Smith-Schuster broke out with 5 receptions for 113 yards and his first touchdown of the season. Although this boom is very delightful, he has only eclipsed 10 points in two other weeks and his role is still unknown in the offense. Mahomes has said the wide receiver one will change every week, and we are banking on it not to be Juju in this game. Kelce remains the number one pass catcher in the offense, and we haven’t seen enough production out of Smith-Schuster to be confident in starting him. We’re benching Juju against the 49ers in Week 7.

Robert Tonyan, TE, Packers: Start. Tonyan is a must pick-up if you don’t have a reliable tight end yet. He is available in 60 percent of ESPN leagues and is one of Rodgers’ most reliable targets, especially with an injury to veteran Randall Cobb. With a disappointing 3-3 start to the season, LaFleur and the Packers will try to get Rodgers back to his old habits of throwing touchdowns. One of his favorite targets in the red zone, receiving 13 touchdowns in the last 20 games, is Robert Tonyan. If you are slim at the tight end position, we recommend picking up and starting Tonyan.

Mike Gesicki, TE, Dolphins: Sit. Gesicki owners were very pleased after a monster performance last week with two touchdowns. However, the answer last week is the problem moving forward: touchdowns. Gesicki has not topped 5 points in a week without a touchdown, making him one of the most touchdown dependent options in fantasy. Additionally, Gesicki only averaged 2 targets per game with the potentially returning Tua Tagovailoa at QB. Due to his shy target share with Tua and his touchdown dependency, we are keeping Gesicki on the bench this week.

Michael Pittman Jr., WR, Colts: Start. After a lackluster start to the season offensively, Matt Ryan and the Indianapolis offense sprang on to the scene last week against Jacksonville. Pittman was the main beneficiary of this success racking up 134 receiving yards. This week, the Colts face off against the Titans who are tied for first in giving up yards to receivers. With Ryan adapting to a new offense, we’re putting our money on Pittman to have another amazing performance.
