Gadfly announces new "Empty Desk" concert series, begins with Anderson

Two teenage boys sitting on an old wooden desk, a bright light shining in their eyes, a camera pointed toward them. Their classmates ventured up to see the spectacle, intrigued by the offer presented to them. They were not disappointed.

With the English Department office recently evacuated for impending construction, Gadfly saw an opportunity. Gadfly moderator David Callon reached out to local micro-celebrity and musician Keller Anderson and his bandmate, fellow senior Ryan Carpenter. The pair responded enthusiastically, eager for the impromptu opportunity to perform live.

This performance will be the start of a new Gadfly series inspired by NPR’s Tiny Desk series, titled “Empty Desk.” Their plan is to continue with live performances in each of the department offices as they are remodeled. As such, this concert was the last time people would set foot in the English office before demolition.

Anderson and Carpenter opened their set with an unreleased original written by Anderson called “The Night,” and then continued with a cover of Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy,” and finished out with the original “Be Your Man.”

The performance was filmed by Callon and media specialist Ryan Doyle and will be posted online by Gadfly for viewers to enjoy.
