Cross Country standout Kellogg heads north to Marquette

Senior Sean Kellogg officially committed to run Division 1 cross country and track at Marquette University last Wednesday. After coming off of a great cross country season where he was SLUH’s number one finishing runner for the majority of the season, Kellogg finished with a personal record of 15:47 at the State meet where he earned an All-State spot.

After continuing to train throughout the winter, Kellogg has posted some impressive times this track season, running 9:25 in the 3200-meter race and a 2:03 in the 800 to keep him as one of the top members of the SLUH running program.

While Kellogg is wrapping up his final year with the SLUH cross country and track programs, the coaches and culture have had a lasting impact on him.

“I wanted to run cross country and track and field in college because of all of the joy it has given me over the last 4 years,” Kellogg mentioned. “It has given me opportunities I didn’t think I would have ever gotten to have and has allowed me to meet many impactful people both inside and outside of the SLUH community.”

Kellogg’s athletic commitment to Marquette does not seem surprising for the academically bright student. Asked why he chose Marquette, Kellogg said, “In addition to being a Division 1 school that has a great running program, Marquette offers incredible academic opportunities and provides real world experiences.”

The future engineering major will further his education at Marquette’s impressive facilities, where he will continue to balance school and athletics.

The Marquette cross country and track programs have been and are continuing to grow as more talented recruits are added to the roster. Along with Kellogg, senior Grant Brawley has also committed to run at Marquette and together the two are hoping to help grow the program to become a regional or even national powerhouse in collegiate running.
