Last year, beloved switchboard receptionist and SLUH alum parent Mimi Hartung retired after her ninth year working at SLUH. An opening appeared for the position and SLUH looked to within the school community to fill the position.

“I have two graduates, two sons that graduated from SLUH, Alixander Sexton-Warner graduated in 2016, and then Austin Sexton-Warner graduated in 2019,” said Warner. “And as everyone knows, I love my SLUH family. I consider the SLUH community as family.”

Sexton-Warner is a former SLUH mom so when the opportunity arose to be a bigger part of the SLUH family the decision was a no-brainer for her.

“SLUH is a special place to me because of all of the help and support that I received when my boys were going here,” said Warner. “The saying is true, it takes a village to raise a kid. Anything I can do to make this school a better place I want to do, and I saw this job as a perfect opportunity to repay my beloved community.”

Sexton-Warner might still be getting acclimated to her new job, but since day one she has loved every minute of it. Her favorite part of the job so far is being able to meet and interact with the students. She is welcoming to every student who seeks help or simply walks past her desk and she wants to treat every student like her own boys, for they are her SLUH children.

One big hope for Sexton-Warner is to leave a lasting impact on SLUH through her interactions with students and involving herself in parent organizations.  Already, she feels like she has made good progress on this goal.

“Hopefully, I'm already impacting SLUH. I am a Mother's Club alum. I, along with Mrs. Martha Staley and Mr. Frank Kovarik, were the originators of PACES, and I am a member of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion board,” said Warner.

One main aspect of the switchboard receptionist is the interactions with the students and greeting them joyfully every day.

“Mrs. Sexton-Warner has big shoes to fill after the retirement of Mrs. Hartung, but her friendly presence at SLUH makes her a good fit for the position,” said junior Louis Miller.
