Gaslight Lounge to host two SLUH musicians for Valentine’s weekend concert

Coming off a very entertaining concert at Blueberry Hill, senior Jude Fucetola (aka. J Anthony) will join junior Keller Anderson on stage for a joint concert at Gaslight Lounge on The Hill on Feb. 12.

Both young music stars, each with his own supporting band, will be performing originals and a few covers in this anticipated, electrifying show that they see as a major step in their music careers.

“It's at Gaslight Studios, which is dead on The Hill. There's a little warehouse and we're gonna pull off something there on Feb. 12, which is Valentine's Day weekend, and that should be really fun,” said Fucetola.

Fucetola comes in hot with a success streak after his Jan. 14th concert, “Love, Then Lost!” at the Blueberry Hill Duck Room. The concert almost sold out with an audience of nearly 270, a staggering number for such a young musician; a tribute to J Anthony’s massive success.

“It ended up being awesome. We sold some merch, it was a great time,” said Fucetola.

At his recent concert, J Anthony debuted his new album, while also sprinkling in some classics along the way for everyone to enjoy and sing along to.

“I did all original songs. I did my full length album, which is nine songs. And it was fun. I'm not releasing the album, so the show was to let people hear the album and hear it live. One time only. I performed the last one in the album, which is kind of a sad and emotional song, and then left the stage and kind of knew that the crowd was going to start cheering for an encore. So I went back out and we did “I Don't Want To Be Your Lover Anymore”, which is obviously my first single and the one I think people know best. So that's why I decided to do it as an encore,” said Fucetola.

Performing live is not a new concept for Anderson. Ever since he was seven, he has been no stranger to the stage. However, recently he has aspired to be more than just a performer, and started to take control of his music career on all sides. Starting with his first single, “Can’t Help It,” released on Halloween of 2021. Going into this concert, Anderson sees this as a path to entering into the music business.

“I would say it's taking more of a step towards a more professional music career rather than just messing around in my basement,” Anderson explained.

Anderson’s band lineup consists of himself as lead vocalist and pianist, junior Leo Smith on drums, junior Ryan Carpenter on bass, and CBC junior Sam Castro on lead guitar. Anderson stepped in as the lead organizer for the event, with the help of his dad, who owns the Gaslight Lounge.

He first came up with the idea of a show in early December. Since then, has worked with his dad on promotion, posters, and more. The show will take place in the warehouse of Gaslight Lounge, which is often used as a concert venue.

“We've done warehouse shows and stuff in here in the back before, and I was like, ‘Yeah, I should do a warehouse show. I should get another artist and put it on,’ and (my dad) was like, ‘Yeah, I'll help you with it.’ It took a little bit to put it together, and find time to really sit down and flesh out the whole idea for the show,” Anderson noted.

Not long after, Fucetola was asked by Anderson to take part in the concert.

“Keller wanted to put on the show. And he asked me to play with him. We're kind of just doing this thing together,” Fucetola said.

With the two SLUH bands confirmed and a setlist ready for the Valentine’s Day weekend concert, the musicians are busy practicing for and promoting the show. Anderson, Smith, Carpenter, and Castro will be performing “Can’t Help It” among other Keller Anderson originals, as well as multiple covers like “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers. They will also perform Anderson’s upcoming single, “Won’t Ever Die,” featuring guest performer and SLUH football star Archie Carruthers. It will be released to stream a week earlier, on Feb. 4.

“(The concert) gets to feature original music, but at the same time we got a couple songs in there that are just crowd pleasers to just keep the show energy up,” Anderson explained.

“It’s a great mix of songs,” added Smith. “It’s gonna be very entertaining.”

Meanwhile, Fucetola has a repertoire of all originals planned. He has three singles out already on Spotify, including fan favorite “I Don’t Want to Be Your Lover Anymore.” His band will kick off the night at 6:30, and after a short break Anderson’s will finish.

“This is really me taking the step to promote my own music and really put on a show, but at the same time … playing live shows is something that I've always loved doing since I was a kid, and it's really great to play for my same age and say that it's really a ticketed show where we can sell out,” described Anderson.

Tickets are $10 online and $15 at the door. For tickets, updates, and information, see @_kelleranderson and @itsjanthony on Instagram.

“The setlist is going to be awesome,” Anderson said. “We're going to have features. It's going to be a big mix of music that I feel like a lot of people will love. I feel like it really represents this new St. Louis music community. It's just gonna be a blast.”
