Satire: Students make commutes decide to eco-friendly follow threatening email from Dean of Students

The St. Louis U. High student body received a threatening email this past Tuesday regarding parking violations in the Science Center lot. Despite possibly being an empty threat, Kesterson held Saturday JUGs and monetary fines over the students heads. This Wednesday, seniors held a meeting regarding enforcing senior parking.

“I haven’t been able to find a parking spot in senior parking in the past three weeks, '' said senior Shaun Carroll. “There’s something called senior privilege you know.”

Instead of choosing to park far away in the back of the lot, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors have found other means of transportation to and from school. The bike racks have been recently flooded with bikes, unicycles, and hoverboards.

“I do have to wake up a few minutes earlier each morning in order to take my hoverboard,” said junior Landon Bieseman. “Including charging stops, it's not that bad; now I just leave around 3:30 each morning.”

Students closer to SLUH are able to use other creative means of commuting to school. The St. Louis Zoo was kind enough to loan out animals for a quicker ride.

“They have a good variety of animals for us currently. My favorites have been Kali the polar bear and Rudy the orangutan,” said junior Charlie Gray.

Students from farther away have teamed up to find rides to school each day, agreeing to meet along major highways in hopes of hitchhiking.

Others have struggled to find new rides. Inspired by their home’s proximity to Spirit of St. Louis Airport in Chesterfield, junior Archie Carruthers and his father, President Alan Carruthers, hired a private plane to fly them over 4970 Oakland and drop them for a skydiving entrance. On Wednesday, the duo had a successful jump onto the SLUH football field. However, on Thursday, their flight was delayed and they ended up jumping right into the middle of a football practice.

“I was extremely disappointed that I was forced to miss all my meetings yesterday, however I think the football team enjoyed a surprise visit from me. I made sure Archie was on time for practice,” said Alan Carruthers.

The Science Center has been thrilled with this change in student commuting the past few days. The decrease in student parking has led to a much more open lot for their visitors.

“We may be able to end usage of the lot altogether in a couple of years,” said Principal Ian Gibbons, S.J. “That would really decrease the morning and after school traffic around the campus.”
